M-DCPS ACADEMY OF FINANCE STUDENTS GET A HEAD START AS FUTURE BANKERS Thirty Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students enrolled in Academy of Finance programs at five senior high schools will participate in a Future Banker’s Camp this summer sponsored by the South Florida Workforce Investment Board and several local banks. The purpose of the camp is to expose students to careers in the financial services industry. This innovative program will provide students from Coral Gables, Miami Jackson, Coral Reef, Barbara Goleman and Miami Edison senior high schools, with various educational enhancement opportunities to strengthen their math and communication skills, including completion of an internship program and industry certification with the ultimate aim of college and career readiness. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to receive the American Bankers Association, American Institute of Banking’s bank teller certificate. The certificate, a national standard, meets the educational requirement for the certification exam offered by the Institute of Certified Bankers. Students who graduate from high school are eligible for Miami Dade College’s vocational certificate and can work towards an associate’s degree in financial services. M-DCPS’ Academy of Finance program is a member of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), a national network of career academies that support the development of America’s youth toward personal and professional success in high school, higher education and throughout their careers. There are 15 high schools in Miami-Dade with Academy of Finance career academies.
