MORE THAN HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN PERFORMANCE PAY FOR
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS

Just three months ago, Miami-Dade County Public Schools rewarded its high-performing teachers with more than $14 million in performance pay.  Today, it’s the principals’ and assistant principals’ turn, and more than half a million dollars will be distributed to the district’s high-performing school-site administrators at an 11:30 a.m. ceremony in the School Board Administration Building Auditorium, 1450 N.E. Second Avenue, Miami.

Miami-Dade is the only school district in the state to reward teachers and school-site administrators for their performance under a U.S. Department of Education Race to the Top (RTTT) grant. Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho chaired the Governor’s Working Group that developed a memorandum of understanding and a successful application that resulted in Florida’s receiving more than $700 million in RTTT funds, equaling $350 million for school districts across the state. Funds for the awards to administrators who lead and inspire teachers to accomplish the goal of educating students are made possible through the RTTT grant.

Editor’s Note:  Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho will be available to discuss highlights of the school district’s proposed budget for 2013-2014, following today’s hour-long ceremony.
