SUPERINTENDENT ALBERTO M. CARVALHO WILL BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT
‘I HAVE A DREAM’ FOUNDATION EVENT, JULY 31

Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho will be the keynote speaker at the “I have a dream” Foundation event. The event will be held Wednesday, July 31 at 6 p.m. at the Chapman Conference Center located at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33132.

The “I Have a Dream” program was launched in 1981, when founder Eugene Lang returned to his alma mater, PS. 121 in East Harlem, to address the graduating sixth grade class and decided to start a commitment of adopting an entire kindergarten class at a low performing school in an economically disadvantaged area. This led to the creation of the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, which consists of 35 affiliates across the United States, and one in New Zealand.

The Miami chapter was founded in 1995 by the Trump Family. The foundation has adopted students from Charles R. Drew Elementary in Liberty City and Hibiscus Elementary School. The foundation provides tutoring, mentoring, pregnancy and drug prevention programs, college prep classes and counseling. It also involves the students’ families by showing them how to support their children’s academic success.
