Three hundred students from Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will file into the Biltmore Hotel’s Country Club Ballroom at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 1, to be awarded “last dollar” College Assistance Program (CAP), Inc. grants to attend college. The Biltmore is located at 1200 Anastasia Ave., Coral Gables.
Univision-TV 23 anchor Sandra Peebles will host CAP Inc. Grant Night 2013. Featured speakers include Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho; CAP Inc. President Xavier Martinez; Craig Sutherland, President BNY Mellon Wealth Management; Alfredo Mesa, Executive Director, Marlins Foundation; and a special CAP Inc. scholar.
Founded by the former and longest-serving Miami-Dade School Board member, G. Holmes Braddock, in collaboration with M-DCPS’ Division of Student Services and the Dade Community Foundation, CAP, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting diverse, multicultural, economically disadvantaged M-DCPS graduates, who have exhausted all available means of financial assistance. CAP, Inc. allows them to attend the college of their choice through “last dollar” grant assistance.
Since 1979, CAP, Inc. has been working in collaboration with M-DCPS to provide millions of dollars in grant scholarships to students. Over the years, more than 13,000 students have received over $11 million.
