M-DCPS TO OPEN FIVE SCHOOL-SITE LIBRARIES TO THE PUBLIC
Board member Carlos Curbelo proffered idea to lessen the shock made by County closures.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools will open five school libraries to serve the public in the wake of expected county library closings due to budget cuts. The five media centers are housed within educational technical centers that currently have expanded hours.
Last week, the Miami-Dade School Board unanimously endorsed a proposal by Board member Carlos Curbelo to expand the public use of school-site media centers and libraries. Approximately 14 Miami-Dade public libraries are scheduled to close in the fall.
Starting on Monday, Aug. 19 – also the first day of school – the public will have access to on-site books, periodicals, the Internet and other educational resources at the following sites:
