ERNST & YOUNG TO INVEST $10K, 800 VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR BOOKER T. WASHINGTON SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

On Friday, Oct. 18, professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY) will partner with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to teach 620 Booker T. Washington Senior High students about entrepreneurship and financial literacy during the 4th Annual EY Connect Day.  The event, which begins at 8 a.m. and runs until noon, will be held at the school, 1200 N.W. 6th Ave., Miami, 33136.

Connect Day provides an annual opportunity for employees to join with colleagues for a day of community service and celebration as they address the firm’s community pillars – education, entrepreneurship and environment. As part of the event, EY will invest over $10,000 and more than 800 volunteer hours to support the school.

Students will learn to develop a product, determine the Economics of One Unit and prepare a commercial for their product. Through interactive activities, students will learn about options for financing their post high school education, including applying for scholarships, types of available loans and options.

Additionally, a school beautification project will be achieved with volunteers working under the guidance of renowned artist David Lavernia, who will paint three large student-designed motivational murals. City Year volunteers will provide additional support to the students and EY volunteers.
