M-DCPS TEACHER NAMED SITE SUPERVISOR-OF-THE-YEAR BY THE
‘FLORIDA AFTER SCHOOL ALLIANCE’

Susan G. Gonzalez, a teacher from Miami Gardens Elementary School, recently was named the recipient of the 2013 “Florida After School Alliance’s” Awards of Excellence Site Supervisor of the Year for her management of the “Afterschool Achiever’s Academy,” a Florida D epartment of Education, grant- funded, 21st Century Community Learning Center.

Gonzalez, a national Board Certified teacher, received the award during the alliance’s 23rd a nnual c onference in Orlando. She has served as the program’s supervisor for three years and is an advocate for children’s causes. Gonzalez also is a memb er of the Educational Excellence School Advisory Council , Parent Teacher Association , Florida Reading Council , and a grant manager for Title III Tutoring Academy for English Language Learners at her school site. 

The after-school program serves 80 low-income elementary school students in the Miami Gardens community. It offers unique opportunities through its high quality curriculum-based platform. The program provides students with unique experiences such as hands- on encounters with farm animals.
