M-DCPS RECOGNIZED FOR EXEMPLARY MIAMI - Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) was recently recognized by Florida’s Task Force on African American History for having an exemplary African American history curriculum. The District’s exemplary status was based on several criteria, including but not limited to, a School Board approved plan of implementation of the Florida African and African American history required instruction; structured professional development and delivery of instruction; evidence of university/school district collaboration, and parent/community partnerships. M-DCPS was among ten Florida school districts recognized. Florida’s Task Force on African American History is an advocate for Florida’s school districts in implementing the teaching of African American history. “Miami-Dade County Public Schools has long been an advocate for instruction that celebrates the historical and contemporary contributions of people of all ethnicities,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “The District’s comprehensive African American history curriculum and the recent exemplary status recognition from the state demonstrate our commitment to delivering diverse academic instruction that is relevant across a wide spectrum of subject areas.” Although Black History Month is observed nationally in February, Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ African American history curriculum is woven into all subjects throughout the academic year. National Black History Month provides schools with additional opportunities to emphasize and celebrate African American history in all of Miami-Dade’s public schools.
