Carvalho received an honorary degree in public service from Florida International University on Sunday during the first of its spring commencement ceremonies. Carvalho, who recently was named Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents Association, was lauded by FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg for his vision, leadership, determination and hard work in transforming public schools.
