Miami local artistS READY TO SHOWCASE NEWLY BEAUTIFIED Popular street artists reunited this summer to paint murals What do our kids see as they walk to school? What are the inspirations for Miami Gardens’ youth and how can our community support them? These are the questions that volunteers and artists were looking to answer as they work to improve the Carol City Middle School campus. The project, which kicked off early June, will be unveiled on Monday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. with more than 30 murals. The school is located at 3737 N.W. 188th Street, Miami Gardens. The beautification project reunited 29 local street artists who donated their time and talent to paint murals to instill pride in the students and community at-large. Hec One Love, an abstract painter whose large-scale works reinvent action painting with a street aesthetic, curated the project. Among the well-known artists includes Aquarela Sabol, Claudia La Bianca, Ivan Roque, Kraveart, Registered Artist, Santiago Rubino and Wilson Art. “Our students are in need of arts’ exposure and positivity in their lives. Beautifying our campus would continue to build a sense of pride in their school and would expose them to art as a form of expression and a way of life,” said Carol City Middle’s Principal Sonia Romero. The artists have been painting the school’s main entrance and surrounding 13x25 foot tall walls. Thanks to Carol City Middle’s sponsors and donors, the school was able to cover most of the costs associated with the beautification process. Among the donors are City Year Miami, St. Thomas University, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Miami Dade College School of Science, Molina Health Care, and Artist and Craftsman Supply Miami.
