WHY: |
Last year, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) launched an initiative to eliminate the digital divide in 10 fragile schools. This year, selected students at 18 targeted elementary schools will receive a computer device and four years of free Internet access provided by Sprint to use at their homes as part of the CONNECT@HOME project. Students will use the device to practice their reading and math skills at home through “myON Readers” and “Reflex Math,” as well as other educational software accessible through the student portal.
Over the next four years, Sprint will provide free broadband connectivity to students in the Miami-Dade school district, investing $100 million nationally, as part of the White House initiative, ConnectED. The high-speed LTE broadband service will help students stay connected at home through a Wi-Fi hotspot. |
