M-DCPS SCIENCE TEACHER INVITED TO JOIN PBS FORUM ON STEM LEARNING

Bertha Vazquez, a science teacher from George Washington Carver Middle School, has been invited to be part of a panel on the Forum on Digital Media for STEM Learning: Climate Education on November 9, at WGBH Boston.

Carver Middle School alumna Larissa Weinstein, who is attending college in Boston, also has been invited to be part of the panel. The program will bring together 200 key stakeholders – teachers, media producers, educational researchers and policy makers – to explore the evolving landscape, products and engagement models surrounding digital media in support of climate-science education.

The presentation will be streamed live to online audiences nationally.  Viewers will be able to participate in panel discussions via social media.

Bertha Vazquez has been teaching middle school science in Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 24 years. She has a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Miami and a Master’s in Science Education from Florida International University. A seasoned traveler who has visited all seven continents, she enjoys introducing the world of nature and science to young, eager minds. An educator with National Board Certification, she is the recipient of several national and local honors, including the 2014 Samsung’s $150,000 Solve For Tomorrow Contest and The Charles C. Bartlett National Excellence in Environmental Award in 2009.
