MIAMI SUNSET SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL KICKS OFF GO BOND PROJECT

Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, School Board Member Dr. Marta Pérez, interim Principal Julian Cazañas and District representatives gathered at Miami Sunset Senior High School this morning to kick off its General Obligation Bond construction project.

Slated to be completed at the end of 2016, Sunset High’s planned renovations include, HVAC improvements, select roofing replacement, exterior and interior door, ceiling, lighting and flooring improvements, a P.E. track, security enhancements, portable removal and exterior painting.

The GOB program provides a total project allocation of $5,857,471, and the School Board commissioned Silva Architects, LLC, as the architect of record for the project. The architect is both M/WBE and SBE/MBE certified. The School Board also commissioned Stobs Bros. Construction Company as the project contractor, to provide pre-construction services. Both companies have committed to SBE/MBE sub-consultant participation goals of 10 percent.

Sunset High School originally opened its doors in 1977 and over the years was expanded and received select building system upgrades.

More exciting news was announced today regarding the creation of a Communications Academy launching in August, a new track and field area, and expressive art murals throughout the school.

Dr. Pérez and Superintendent Carvalho, center, are surrounded by Sunset students
as they break ground on the school’s GO Bond Project.
