WHY:

STEM Expo is a gathering of Miami-Dade County's most creative, intelligent, and resourceful students that compete and demonstrate their proficiency in STEM activities. This year’s theme is from iDeas to Reality. The STEM Expo is an event that showcases the fruits of their hard work and provides a learning experience on the responsibility of communicating STEM research and engineering designs to the community.

In his first public speaking engagement since his confirmation, Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, Surgeon General of the United States, will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony. Dr. Murthy’s keynote is especially significant because he is a Miami Palmetto Senior High School alumnus and 1994 valedictorian. The Miami-Dade County Public Schools graduate and America’s doctor will speak to students about his experiences as a student and the wealth of opportunities and careers in STEM.

Superintendent Carvalho and Dr. Murthy will meet privately before the event to discuss important issues including student health immunizations and school clinics.
