WHY:

Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) is opening the doors of the Information Technology Services Security Center and sharing the measures used to keep Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) information systems secure.

This week, the Florida Department of Education announced that their servers were cyber-attacked last week, causing some of the delays students experienced during FSA testing.  M-DCPS was able to detect anomalies in our system last week during a non-testing day, and quickly put procedures in place to prevent any disruption of computer systems. Because of these proactive steps, what happened to the state did not affect M-DCPS.

Who prevented this from happening? How did we prevent it? We take the media to our information technology center for a behind-the-scenes look at how we monitor, track and safeguard our servers on a District level, at schools and on individual student computers.
