M-DCPS WINS NATIONAL VIDEO CONTEST SHOWCASING MUSIC EDUCATION

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has been named one of six winners of the NAMM Foundation’s 2015 “What Makes Music Education Great in My School or District” video contest. The two-minute video highlights the various genres of music education available at M-DCPS, such as instrumental, choral, theatrical and digital.

Video submissions were sent in from all over the country, and only six were chosen to host a two-day residency with The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. Winners will also receive a town hall-style forum to showcase music their program presented by The NAMM Foundation.

Founded in 2006, The NAMM Foundation represents the generosity and philanthropy of the music products industry. A supporting organization of NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, the NAMM Foundation is funded through trade association activities and donations.

M-DCPS is also among the school districts receiving “Best Communities for Music Education” (BCME) recognition for outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders to make music education accessible to all students.

Now it its 16th year, the BCME program evaluates schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, and access to music instruction.
