MIAMI JACKSON SENIOR HIGH TO HONOR TWO STUDENTS POSTHUMOUSLY AT GRADUATION

Miami Jackson Senior High will award posthumous diplomas to the parents of two students, Pedro Uriarte and Bryan Herrera

WHY:

Pedro Uriarte was only 18 when he was fatally shot on November 30, 2014, by an unknown assailant while walking by an elementary school near Wynwood on a Sunday afternoon. It was first thought he was killed for his headphones. Pedro couldn’t wait to graduate and dreamed of going to college and becoming an accountant. 

Bryan Herrera, who was just 16 years old, was riding his bicycle to a friend's house to finish homework when he was shot in broad daylight on December 22, 2012, at the intersection of Northwest 11th Avenue and 39th Street. He was a bright, straight-A student at Miami Jackson High, who was described as a “sweet kid.”
