Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) will kick off "Turn on the Lights 2000," a community school event celebrating public education in 2000 with a reception at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Hialeah Middle School, 6027 East 7 Ave., Hialeah. A community parade at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by a celebration ceremony at 7:15 p.m.

The turning on of lights symbolizes that community schools remain open from early morning to late at night and are available on weekends, holidays and vacations to reach out and inform the community that learning is lifelong.

The annual event is cosponsored by MDCPS, Miami-Dade Coalition for Community Education, the National Community Education Association and America Goes Back To School. For further information, contact Doris Nesbitt at 305-995-1215.
