A ceremony dedicating the new Felix Varela Senior High School, 15255
S.W. 96th St., will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16.
The new school opened at the beginning of the school year and
currently has about 2,100 ninth and tenth graders. It will add 11th
and 12th graders in successive years.
Located on a 39-acre tract, the new facility contains 290,000 square
feet of classroom, office and computer lab space. It also has a
variety of athletic fields and courts, an 827-seat
theater/auditorium, a 600-seat cafeteria and a state-of-the-art media
center.
School officials and business and community leaders will participate
in the ceremony. The construction project is part of the Miami-Dade
County Public Schools' long-term building and renovation program.
