SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM OFFERED BY ELIGIBLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

June 5, 2001

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will sponsor the Food Service Summer Program for Children in a number of eligible schools during summer school.

Elementary and middle schools will be open for summer school from July 9 through August 3. Senior high schools will be open from July 9 through August 17.

Similar to the National School Lunch Program, the Food Service Summer Program provides nutritionally balanced meals to children regardless of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, age or national origin. All children 18 years and younger in eligible schools are provided lunch and breakfast at no charge.

The programs are approved for geographical areas of need, or where half of the students qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year. Neighborhood schools have details on eligibility.

The following is a list of those schools participating in the Food Service Summer Program for Children. For more information, call Onetha J. Gilliard, Assistant Superintendent, Management and Accountability, at 305-995-3113.
