M-DCPS HOSTS BOND PROJECT KICK-OFF EVENT AT Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho, School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman, and community leaders gathered at American Senior High School today for a bond project kick-off event resulting from the overwhelming voter approval of the $1.2 billion General Obligation Bond. The GOB will be used to modernize and construct school buildings throughout the district, expand student capacity, enhance facility safety, and provide technology upgrades at all schools. The American Senior High School renovation project, valued at approximately $7.4 million, will include a complete campus-wide HVAC system replacement as well as plumbing and lighting improvements. American Senior originally opened its doors in 1976 and over the years was expanded and received select building system upgrades. M.C. Harry & Associates, Inc.,the architect of record for the project, has committed to a SBE/MBE sub-consultant participation goal of 25 percent. Commissioning of a project contractor, D. Stephenson Construction, Inc., for pre-construction services is scheduled for the February 11, 2015 School Board meeting. The contractor, a M/WBE District-certified firm, has committed to SBE/MBE sub-consultant participation goals of 10 percent during pre-construction, 25 percent during construction and 20 percent during construction management activities. The design phase is slated to be completed in summer of 2015 with a projected construction award in early 2016 and construction completion in the summer of 2017.
