WHY:

Superintendent Carvalho will honor 10 local, philanthropic individuals – dubbed the “Angel Patrol” for always stepping forward to take care of the district’s needy students.

·  Karen and Jonathan Fryd - South Florida Youth Foundation - have donated tens of thousands of dollars to help hundreds of homeless and needy students via the foundation, but just as important, with their personal involvement.

·  Mark and Honey Revitz – Vista Memorial Park – have provided dozens of funerals and burials at no cost for children whose parents cannot afford the services.

·  Paulette Pfeiffer - Silent Victims of Crime – empowers children of incarcerated parents through positive mentoring and educational enrichment. She collaborates with local prisons to sponsor father/daughter dances and events uniting sons with their fathers.

·  Gloria Tucker and her Macy’s Miami Beach Store Team help homeless students keep up with the latest fashion with sales at Macy’s and fashion shows through Project UP-START.

·  Julie Grimes Heafey is an advocate for our hospitality academies, and is directly involved in our schools helping students and with the Foundation for Educational Initiatives, Inc.

·  Melissa Mc Caughan White – Key Biscayne Foundation – connects organizations to programs in Miami-Dade public schools. She helped create a sister city initiative between Key Biscayne and Liberty City to help fund projects so all students can have the same school experiences.

·  John Batchelor - Batchelor Foundation – funds a program that teaches baking skills to young adults with special needs. He also funded Project UP-START supporting homeless students.

·  Matthew Foreman - Himan Brown Charitable Trust – supports individual schools throughout the county and provides funds for various projects such as after-care programs and is the sole funder for the teen outreach program: Girl Power. The firm also partners with the Key to Giving matching program to award 100 percent matched donations to 16 organizations.
