Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will be hosting special events across the county to kick-off school bond projects resulting from the overwhelming voter approval of the $1.2 billion General Obligation Bond. The bond is being used to modernize and construct school buildings throughout the District, expand student capacity, enhance facility safety, and provide technology upgrades at all schools.
D. A. Dorsey Technical College has a rich and positive tradition in the Liberty City area of Miami. It was established in 1936 as the Miami Dorsey High School. In 1970, its focus was changed to meet the needs of the adults in the community by becoming a fully operational adult center.
The renovation project at Dorsey will be completed in two phases representing a total investment of $6 million. The initial phase has a project allocation of $3.4 million and has been awarded to Carivon Construction under a sheltered market solicitation for certified Small and Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) contractors. Additionally, the project included a 15 percent S/MBE participation goal for subcontractors, which Carivon greatly exceeded. Over 62 percent of subcontracting work on the project is being performed by S/MBE firms, including 14 percent by African-American owned firms.
The scope of work encompasses: renovation to classroom building 4, complete remodeling of classroom building 3, new windows, renovation of group restrooms including plumbing, new flooring and ceiling, HVAC replacement with digital controls, ADA ramp and covered walk at entrance, security cameras, and exterior painting throughout campus.
