Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) continues to host special events across the county to celebrate school bond projects milestones resulting from the overwhelming voter approval of the $1.2 billion General Obligation Bond. The bond is being used to modernize and construct school buildings throughout the District, expand student capacity, enhance facility safety, and provide technology upgrades at all schools.
Rodriguez Architects and MCM are the architect and construction manager, respectively, commissioned to deliver the $10.7 million project, including a $775,000 contribution from the City of Homestead CRA. Nearly 41 percent of the construction and 20 percent of the construction management services are small, micro or minority-owned firms. Thirty percent of the workforce lives within a 10 mile radius of the project. This is the highest local workforce goal of any GOB project honoring the District’s commitment to the CRA.
The scope of work encompasses: classroom technology upgrades throughout; a new 18,000 square-foot building including a main entrance, 242 new student stations, robotics lab, science demo lab, science classroom, two computer labs, a new clinic, and administrative offices; a new 1,500 square-foot dining shelter; a new playground and basketball courts; renovation and remodeling of buildings 1, 2, and 6, to include new windows, HVAC upgrades, painting, selective lighting, ceiling and floor upgrades, new locker rooms, a multipurpose room, demolition of an outdated classroom building and a wheelchair lift for cafetorium stage.
