General Obligation Bond Groundbreaking Event

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will break ground on the new GOB Project at Miami Palmetto Senior High. Zyscovich Architects and MCM (Munilla Construction Management) LLC are the architect and construction manager, respectively, commissioned to deliver the $44 million project.

Palmetto High’s project includes the demolition of portables and some of the existing buildings to make way for the new construction. The scope of work comprises approximately 120,000 sq. feet of new construction, including a new classroom building anchoring the new entrance to the school; an administration and student services area; vocational labs for a variety of instructional activities such as web design, drafting and design, health science, and business technology education; new arts wing, which will house 2-D and 3-D art and a photo studio lab; a new gymnastics space, dance room and a new vocal/ music room; a new black box theater lab with outdoor stage performances, and a new cafeteria building and interior and exterior dining.

The remaining buildings will be remodeled and renovated and also will include new covered walkway between buildings; new courtyard area; electrical and mechanical upgrades; classroom technology upgrades; and exterior painting throughout.

The school bond projects resulted from voter approval of the $1.2 billion General Obligation Bond. The bond is being used to modernize and construct school buildings throughout the District, expand student capacity, enhance facility safety, and provide technology upgrades at all schools.
