The Elie Wiesel Foundation Prize in Ethics Essay Contest, now in its 29th year nationwide, challenges students to analyze urgent ethical issues. Students are encouraged to write thought-provoking essays that raise questions, single out issues and are rational arguments for ethical action.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition and The Betsy-South Beach have partnered to present the Elie Wiesel Foundation Prize in Ethics Essay Contest. For the fifth year, M-DCPS is the only district in the nation to have high school juniors and seniors participate in this contest originally created for college students. Thousands of young people have participated in the Foundation’s Prize in Ethics since its inception in 1989.
Ten District winners will be chosen from school site winners and announced at the special awards ceremony. The ceremony will include remarks from Superintendent Carvalho and a Youth Fair representative. The winners will receive scholarship prizes provided by the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition: first place: $3,000 scholarship; second place: $2,000 scholarship; third place: $1,000 scholarship and $250 scholarships each to two honorable mentions.
