M-DCPS’ Division of Academics, Visual and Performing Arts is presenting the annual student art exhibition “Taste of the Tropics” in collaboration with Pinecrest Gardens and the Dade Art Educators Association, Inc, (DAEA). The Miami Palmetto Senior High band will delight audiences with a musical performance under the direction of Mr. Jorge Padron from 6 to 7 pm. The work of more than 200 students in grades K-12 will be on exhibit at the Hibiscus Gallery at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 Red Road, Pinecrest, FL 33156, through March 14, 2019, Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This free, thematic exhibition allows students to examine Miami’s tropical splendor and vast array of insect life while viewing it like a true native. Students explored insect life and insect perspectives through the use of various media such as: drawing, painting, printmaking, etc. They reimagined the magical connection of natural environments and the insect life that makes them their homes, through narratives of magical alchemy, by transforming the relationships of both, creating magical images such as those found in artist Natalie McIntyre’s meticulous and beautiful insects. South Florida insect life is to be explored and considered in this STEAM related exhibition.
