As the District prepares to launch a new school year, the Department of Transportation will host a Bus Safety presentation, which will include the District’s bus inspection process of seatbelts and the alert system that prevents students from being left on a bus after it returns to the bus depot. Outside the buses, the inspections will include safety features such as the stop arm and stop notification that alerts surrounding vehicles of students getting on or off. Engine inspection processes that control emissions into the environment will also be demonstrated. The safety demonstrations will be followed by dry run simulations of the school bus fleet. The 1,060 buses will be undertaking the massive operation of transporting approximately 45,000 Miami-Dade school children daily via 840 routes in the county.
