The Foundation for New Education Initiatives (FNEI) and Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho will team up once again to host the 6th Annual Race for Education benefiting local public schools. Due to COVID-19, participants will have the option of completing the 5K race either in person or virtually on their own. Racers who choose the in-person option must follow CDC health guidelines of wearing a facial covering and maintaining social distancing.
FNEI will donate a percentage of race proceeds to participating schools based on the number or participants each school team registers.
Registration is now open at: www.giveourstudentstheworld.org.
The In-Person 5K (3.1 miles) course starts and finishes at the Maurice A. Ferré Park on Biscayne Boulevard. The route heads eastbound on the MacArthur Causeway, then loops around onto Watson Island before heading back.
For the Virtual 5K, participants may run their distance anywhere at any time between March 6 and March 13. They must complete the event and track their progress with the RaceJoy app on a mobile device. T-shirts and medals may be picked up at the FNEI office in the School Board Administration Building.
Registration for both the In-Person and Virtual races cost the same. Adults may register as a Runner/Walker with a $30.00 + $2.74 registration fee. Students have three options to choose from: 5K, 1-mile Run, and the Kid’s Dash for children ages 2-9 (Kid’s Dash not available in Virtual mode). Registration for each student option is $10.00 + $1.58 registration fee. Participants have the option of registering as an individual or joining an existing team. Prices will increase after March 4, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
