Celebrating the completion
of a 114-Panel Solar Canopy installation project at MAST@FIU Biscayne Bay
Campus. The solar canopy at MAST@FIU Biscayne Bay Campus is the only one of
its kind in the school district.

WHY:
M-DCPS, in collaboration with FIU and FPL, will be unveiling a high-tech solar canopy at MAST@FIU
Biscayne Bay Campus as part of the School Board’s effort to reduce energy
consumption across the district. This solar structure generates low-cost, emission-free energy and
enhances the school’s marine science and STEM curriculum by providing students with
firsthand experience monitoring the canopy’s emissions-free solar energy production and the
building’s overall energy consumption. MAST@FIU Biscayne Bay Campus is a
nationally recognized School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America and is one of only ten high
schools listed on the 2023 Florida Green School Designated School Directory.
