School Board Approves Contracts for Three GOB Projects Valued at $16.5 Million

The Miami-Dade School Board approved the commissioning of architects and construction managers related to three General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $13.7 million, and awarded a contract for a project valued at $3.8 million at its regular monthly meeting yesterday.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades. The following are details of the projects: 

Carol City Middle – the proposed scope of work includes but is not limited to: selective replacement of steel/aluminum windows; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) components; new security alarm cameras; replacement of exterior doors, lighting fixtures, alarm sensors, motion detectors, emergency exit signs; exterior/interior painting and resurfacing and re-striping of basketball courts.

Total project allocation - $3.2 million                                            Completion – March 2022

Total Sub-Consultant S/MBE Participation: 22.5 percent

Total Sub-Consultant M/WBE Participation: 18.1 percent 

Leisure City K-8 Center – the proposed scope of work includes, but is not limited to, portable and PE shelter demolition; site restoration; new PE shelter and equipment with covered walkways; playground replacement; new covered resurfacing of basketball

courts; selective impact-resisting windows installation; selective restroom remodeling; acoustical ceilings with LED lighting fixtures; replacement of existing fire alarm; exterior painting throughout; resealing and restriping of parking lots and drop-off areas.  

Total project allocation - $6.7 million                                             Completion – July 2022

Total Sub-Consultant S/MBE Participation: 20 percent

Total Sub- Consultant M/WBE Participation: 10 percent 

 

Pinecrest Elementary – the scope of work includes, interior and exterior campus-wide painting; selective replacements of windows, HVAC, ceiling and lighting, main boiler, cabinets, flooring, electrical panel, bathroom and media center renovations, and other miscellaneous upgrades throughout.

Total project allocation - $3.8 million                                            Completion – May 2021

Total Sub-Consultant S/MBE Participation: 44.7 percent

Total Sub- Consultant M/WBE Participation: 13.5 percent
