School Board Approves Contracts for Two GOB Projects Valued at $15.7 Million, Small Business Enterprise and Minority Women Business Enterprise Goals Exceeded

The Miami-Dade School Board approved the commissioning of two architectural firms related to two General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $15.7 million, at yesterday’s regular monthly meeting. Miami-Dade County Public Schools has been expediting construction projects while public schools have been closed, following all CDC guidelines and maintaining safety and health as a priority.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades. The following are details of the projects:

KVH Architects, P.A. was commissioned as Architect/Engineer of Record to provide Part 2 services for GOB-funded renovations at Riviera Middle School. 

The proposed scope of work includes, but is not limited to: extensive remodeling in the fine arts building to repurpose underused storage rooms to create new digital art media rooms. Renovations will also take place in two classroom buildings, cafeteria, media center, administration and the auditorium. Hardcourts will be marked for basketball and volleyball; demolition of one portable, access stair, sidewalk and utilities; including site restoration, sod irrigation system, resurfacing parking lots and installing new impact-resistant windows. 

Total project allocation - $6.4 million                                            Completion – December 2022

Total Sub-Consultant S/MBE Participation: 18.76 percent of which 18.76 percent is M/WBE

Wolfberg Alvarez & Partners, Inc. was commissioned to provide Part 2 Services for GOB-funded renovations at Miami Springs Senior High School. The proposed scope of work includes, but is not limited to: campus-wide renovations in administration area, gymnasium, auditorium, media, classrooms and concessions area. Demolition of the driver’s education paved lot and shelter; installing soil, irrigation and new fencing at gate; installing 60 new wall-mounted light fixtures around buildings; replacing basketball goals and metal standards; re-surfacing and re-striping basketball courts; replacing parking lot light poles, fixtures, double-swing gates, marquee, and basketball goals; renovating the softball dugout building to including roof structure; replacing water fountains with new, ADA-compliant, cold water fountains. 

Total project allocation - $9.3 Million                                                 Completion – August 2022

Total Sub-Consultant S/MBE Participation:  18.76 percent of which 18.76 percent is M/WBE

All design and construction shall be in compliance with State Requirements for Educational Facilities, the Florida Building Code, National Fire Protection Association, Florida Fire Prevention Code (Life Safety Code), barrier-free design guidelines, Florida Statutes and M-DCPS Design Standards and District policies.
