The Miami-Dade
Schools Police Department (MDSPD) was officially re-accredited by the
Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) for being in full
compliance of all 178 applicable standards during their assessment. Many of the
standards are critical to life, health and safety issues.
This is the
second time MDSPD has received reaccreditation status. It is one of only two
school-based police departments in Florida to be fully accredited by CFA. MDSPD’s
accreditation is valid for three years and it is a highly prized recognition of
law enforcement professional excellence.
The CFA accreditation
increases the law enforcement agency’s ability to prevent and control crime
through more effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services to
the community. It enhances community understanding of the law enforcement
agency, its role in the community as well as its goals and objectives. It
creates a forum in which police and citizens work together to control and
prevent crime and understand the challenges that confront law enforcement.
CFA is
recognized as the premiere state law enforcement accreditation program in the
country.
MDSPD is the
largest school-based police department in the U.S. Founded in 1957 by the Dade
County Education Commission, this law enforcement agency has almost 500
officers who protect the lives of students and employees at Miami-Dade County
Public Schools.
