School Board Adopts 2022-2023 Budget Increasing Funding for Security, Mental Health, Includes New $15 Minimum Hourly Wage

The Miami-Dade County School Board adopted a budget of $7 billion during its final budget hearing during the monthly School Board meeting, which includes increased funding for security, mental health and a new minimum $15 hourly rate for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) employees.

Miami-Dade County taxpayers will be paying the lowest millage rate in 40 years and the School Board has maximized those funds while similarly levying the lowest tax rate since Jimmy Carter was president in the late 1970s. For Fiscal Year 2022-23, the Board voted to decrease the millage rate from 7.009 to 6.589, which represents a decrease of .420 mills.

The budget includes funds to pay for additional School Resource Officers and equipment for the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, as well as counseling and mental health services for students.
