At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade County School Board approved the commissioning of architects and a construction award for projects at four Miami-Dade public schools.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate,
remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and
provide technology upgrades. The following are details of the projects:
J.C. Bermudez Doral Senior High School – Silva Architects, LLC. was commissioned as Architect/Engineer of Record
(A/E) for a multi-phase GOB project that intends to add 616 student stations
for a total of 1,822 student stations. The preliminary scope of work includes,
but is not limited to remodeling, renovations at existing buildings, construction
of a new 69,000 sq. ft. building, walkways, courtyard, additional parking
spaces, a water retention expasion, and associated site work.

James H. Bright/J.W. Johnson Elementary School – Wolfberg Alvarez and Partners, Inc., was commissioned as A/E for a GOB
renovation project at the school’s two campuses, which house 848 permanent
student stations. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to providing a
new P.E. shelter, a new covered walkway, new bus drop-off, campus-wide
replacement of HVAC components, replacing the public address system in the media
center, replacing an 80-gallon water heater in the administration area and
clinic, and selective exterior painting.

Jane S. Roberts K-8 Center – Rodriguez Architects, Inc., was commissioned as the A/E for
GOB-funded renovations at the school, which is comprised of 16 permanent
buildings housing 1,055 permanent student stations. The project scope includes,
but is not limited to, the demolition of portables and restoring the site,
resurfacing and recoating the paved play areas, and replacing structural steel
columns, beams, and panels around the site. Campus-wide replacement of HVAC
components, ceiling fans and connections to the Emergency Management System.

South Miami Middle School – Veitia Padron, Inc., was awarded the construction contract for renovations at South Miami Middle. The existing school was built in 1951, and currently has nine buildings with a capacity of 746 student stations. The scope of work for this project includes, but is not limited to, replacing all windows in three buildings, upgrades to the HVAC components and lighting, exterior and interior painting, and electrical upgrades.
