At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade County School Board commissioned two architectural firms for General Obligation Bond (GOB) funded projects at Miami Arts Studio (M.A.S.) 6-12 at Zelda Glazer and Palm Springs Middle School valued at approximately $11.6 million.
KVH Architects, P.A. was commissioned as the architect/engineer of record for a new classroom and Physical Education shelter addition at Miami Arts Studio 6-12 at Zelda Glazer. Built in 2006 in the south region, the school has eight buildings and 1,538 student stations.
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to: a new classroom/lab building to house an additional 204 student stations, Physical Education shelter and covered walkways to connect new addition to existing buildings. This project will also feature the remodeling of four classrooms into two skill labs, moot court and a conference/deliberation room. The new construction will integrate rooftop solar photovoltaic panels to produce renewable energy.
Total sub-consultant Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation: 19.5 percent
Total sub-consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation: 13 percent
Total project allocation - $ 6.4 million Completion – April 2025
The School Board also commissioned Laura M. Perez & Associates, Inc. for a renovation
project at Palm Springs Middle School valued at approximately $5.2 million. Built in west Hialeah in 1957 with additions added throughout the years, the school has 1,336 student stations.
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to: selective replacement of aluminum windows, HVAC systems, flooring, cabinets in classrooms and labs, replacement of fire alarm system and emergency lighting, and selective exterior paint. This project will also include auditorium upgrades in the sound system, lighting and control panel, as well as selective electrical upgrades throughout.
Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 19 percent
S/MBE participation: 15 percent
