At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade School Board commissioned two architectural firms and one construction company to complete General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at Dr. William A. Chapman House, Dr. Frederica S. Wilson/Skyway Elementary (DFWS), and Silver Bluff Elementary schools valued at approximately $23,857,085.00.
Dr. William A. Chapman House – R.E. Chisholm Architects, Inc., has been commissioned as the architect/engineer (A/E) of record for bond-funded historical restoration and renovations of Chapman House built in 1923. The house, which features classic detailing on the large porch and front façade, exemplifies the Masonry Vernacular architectural style of the 1920s that was prevalent in then-Dade County.
The scope of work includes but is not limited to, the historical restoration and renovations of the existing building, replacement of the roof, HVAC system, interior walls, stair railing, and wood floors. The electrical main service, emergency lighting, and lighting system will be upgraded. The A/E will be required to preserve the site’s historical value and structural characteristics.

Dr. Frederica S. Wilson / Skyway Elementary – Wolfberg Alvarez and Partners, Inc., has been commissioned as the architect/engineer (A/E) of record for the bond-funded partial replacement and renovations at DFWS. Built in 1972, DFWS is comprised of five buildings located in Miami Gardens.
This scope of work will include the demolition and replacement of Building 1 with Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ first Net Zero Energy Elementary prototype. It includes the design of a Green/Sustainable/High-Performance Prototype, classroom/administration/media center component to house 322 student stations. Also included are two tennis courts, a putting green area, and campus-wide security camera system.
The prototype Building 1 and existing Building 4 shall be high-energy efficient and shall produce enough energy from on-site renewable sources to facilitate operations throughout a 12-month period.

Silver Bluff Elementary – Stonehenge Construction, LLC was awarded the renovation project at Silver Bluff Elementary. Built in 1926, the school is bordered on the north by Southwest 26th Street and Southwest 25th Avenue West. It currently is comprised of six buildings and has 629 student stations.
The scope of work includes campus-wide renovations, exterior painting, and installation of additional fire alarm devices and emergency exit signs. Among items up for replacement are the playground, hallway doors, kitchen HVAC, window air-conditioning units, the stage curtain, and miscellaneous renovations.
