On January 8th, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) awarded Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) a $19,750,000 (or
$19.75 million) grant through the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program. This was the
largest award of the Clean School Bus Program given to a school district in the
state of Florida.
This federal award enables the Miami-Dade County School Board
to elevate its existing Clean School Bus Program. Building upon the District’s
previous commitment of 50 electric buses, this award targets the acquisition of
50 additional electric buses, for a target of 100 electric buses in operation
serving students in the nation’s third largest School District. This funding is
not limited to the buses alone, the award also supports procurement of
additional charging infrastructure, which is vital to any electric bus project.
This initiative is aligned with the District’s Strategic Plan to establish and
implement sustainability practices and underscores the District’s commitment to
fostering a healthier and more sustainable educational environment for the
students of Miami-Dade County.
Through federal funding from the Infrastructure Law, the
EPA has committed $5 billion, nationally, over the next five years (FY
2022-2026) to replace conventional school buses with zero-emission and
low-emission school buses across the country. For more information visit:

To continue advancing the District’s sustainability, the
Foundation for New Education Initiatives (FNEI) has established a green fund to
support M-DCPS. Inspired by a mission to conserve resources and take care of
the natural environment that surrounds us, the Green Fund will help district schools
achieve this mission by working with community sponsors to gather the necessary
resources to pursue sustainability initiatives in schools. The Green Fund at FNEI is currently
accepting donations, if interested in contributing to the advancement of
