At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade School Board commissioned Laura M. Perez and Associates, Inc. as the architect/engineer of record to complete a General Obligation Bond (GOB) new addition, remodeling and renovation project at The English Center valued at approximately $29 million.
The English Center, a full-service adult education center and Technical College, was built in 1952 on 3.5 acres next to Douglas Park in Miami. The school is comprised of 11 permanent buildings.
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the demolition of Buildings 1 through 4 to make way for a new addition that will contain new classrooms, labs, restrooms, an administration area and a childcare section. Buildings 6 through 12 will be remodeled to upgrade the Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning, electrical systems, existing entrances, walkways, parking areas and landscaping. Renovations will also be done to the auditorium, Student Services and Testing areas, and the cosmetology classroom, among others.
