At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade County School Board commissioned architectural firms for two General Obligation Bond-funded projects at Biscayne Gardens Elementary/Thomas Jefferson Middle, and Broadmoor Elementary schools valued at $45.5 million.
Biscayne Gardens Elementary/Thomas Jefferson Middle schools – Zyscovich LLC was commissioned as Architect/Engineer of Record (A/E) for Phase II of a K-8 Center Conversion at Biscayne Gardens Elementary/Thomas Jefferson Middle schools.
Phase I has recently been completed consisting of a two-story addition with a capacity for 554 student stations. Phase II is planned for Thomas Jefferson MS with the intent to use Biscayne Gardens ES (BGES) as a temporary space during construction. Originally built in 1958, the campus, located in the North Region, is comprised of 13 permanent buildings housing 611 student stations.
The preliminary scope of work includes, but is not limited to demolition of the existing cafeteria and construction of a new cafeteria building with an exterior covered dining area. The exterior signage, fencing, concrete walkways, electrical light poles and covered walkways will be replaced. Several selected buildings will be remodeled or renovated for the conversion to a K-8 center.

Broadmoor Elementary School – Silva Architects, LLC was commissioned as the A/E for a GOB-funded remodeling and renovation project at Broadmoor Elementary Schools. Built in 1957 in the school district’s Central Region, the school has 708 permanent student stations.
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to selective demolition of campus buildings and construction of new building additions, a parent drop-off, covered walkways, exterior covered dining areas. Also among the replacement items are the basketball courts, aluminum windows, steel doors, plumbing and the HVAC component system.
