School Board Commissions Architects, Awards a Contractor for Three GOB Projects Valued at $71.8 Million

Yesterday, the Miami-Dade School Board commissioned two architectural firms and a construction company to complete General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at Aventura Waterways K-8 Center, Madison Middle School and Gateway Environmental K-8 Learning Center valued at approximately $71.8 million.

Aventura Waterways K-8 Center – Silva Architects, LLC., has been commissioned as the Architect/Engineer of Record (A/E) for a new Early Childhood Center of approximately 41,000 sq ft. with a capacity of 511 student stations. In addition to administrative offices and food services, the new center will have classes for pre-k, kindergarten, primary grades and ESE students.

Total sub-consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation: 31 percent

Total project allocation - $25.7 million                                   Final completion – August 2026

Madison Middle School – Rodriguez Architects, inc. has been commissioned as the A/E the contract for a GOB-funded partial replacement, remodeling and renovation project at Madison Middle School.  Built in 1954, the school is comprised of 14 buildings on a 14-acre parcel, and has 622 student stations.

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, replacement of Buildings 2, 3, 6, and 7, with a new 40,000 sq-ft. classroom/administration/cafeteria building to house 622 student stations. Also included in the project are renovations to eight buildings and partial remodeling of three others, new extended fire alarm system throughout the remaining campus and new campus-wide security system.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 17 percent 

Total project allocation - $31.1 million                                Final completion – September 2027

Gateway Environmental K-8 Learning Center – Veitia Padron, Incorporated (VPI) has been awarded the contract for a new 12-classroom modular building at the school, which will provide 216 additional student stations for a total of 1,708. Built in Homestead in 2008, the school is currently comprised of four buildings.

The scope of work includes a covered walkway to connect the new building to the rest of the school; additional parking; portable removal; and site restoration.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 13.87 percent 

Total Minority/Women Business Enterprises participation:  19.79 percent

Total project allocation - $15 million                                      Final completion – July 2025
