School Board Approves Architect and Construction Company for Two GOB Projects Valued at $30.6 Million

At its regular Board meeting held on Tuesday, the Miami-Dade County School Board approved the architectural firm Wolfberg Alvarez and Partners, Inc. and the J.R.T. Construction Company to complete two General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $30.6 million.

 

Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) at Florida International University (FIU) Senior High School Biscayne Bay Campus - Wolfberg Alvarez and Partners, Inc. has been commissioned as the Architect/Engineer of Record for Phase II of a new two-story addition with a capacity of 350 student stations of 21,350 gross sq ft. on a site of 5.3 acres.

 

The scope of the project includes administrative offices and food services areas, general-purpose classrooms, general science labs, skills development labs, an area for technology education, relocation of an existing service road, and additional parking. The facility will be designed and constructed to meet one of the approved nationally recognized high-performance green building rating systems.

 

Total sub-consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation: 25 percent

Total project allocation - $16.7 million                                                                              Final completion – August 2026

 

Seminole Elementary School – J.R.T. Construction Company has been awarded the contract for a GOB renovation project at Seminole Elementary School. Built in 1960, the school is comprised of 13 permanent buildings and situated on approximately 7 acres in Miami on S.W. 78th Place and bordered on the north by West Flagler Street. The school has a capacity of 842 student stations.

 

The proposed scope of work includes a campus-wide fire alarm system with a voice evacuation system, new exterior doors, windows, flooring, ceiling, and lighting in several buildings. The school will also receive campus-wide exterior painting, upgrades to the Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) and Emergency Management systems, and renovations to several restrooms.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 13.87 percent 

Total Minority/Women Business Enterprises participation: 24.26 percent

Total project allocation - $13.8 million                                                                             Final completion – April 2026
