Miami-Dade County Public Schools’
(M-DCPS) Procurement Management Services was recently honored for the first
time with the 2024 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) Award by the
National Procurement Institute. M-DCPS was among 198 winners in the U.S. and
Canada, and one of only 23 school districts to receive the award.
“We started to hire based on capacity,
instead of experience, reshaping how we train and build capacity within the
team. That is what helps place us into this position,” said M-DCPS Chief
Procurement Officer Charisma Montfort, who noted that out of her team of 18,
ten of them have less than two years of public procurement experience. “We have
also taken a strong stance on following ethical and effective practices to
ensure that we obtain good and services in a compliant, fair and transparent
way.”
Established in 1995, the AEP award is
presented to organizations that demonstrate excellence through innovation,
professionalism, productivity, e-procurement, and leadership. This year marks
the first time M-DCPS has received this distinguished award, capacity-based leadership.
As one of the largest businesses in
Florida, M-DCPS purchases all types of supplies, materials, commodities, and
services; as well as constructing and maintaining a large variety of
facilities. Winning an award for demonstrating innovation and efficiency in
purchasing supplies and services is yet another reason why M-DCPS is your best
choice for education.
