School Board Approves Veitia Padron, Incorporated Construction Company for Two GOB Projects Budgeted at $37.3 Million

At its regular Board meeting held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Miami-Dade County School Board voted to approve Veitia Padron Incorporated (VPI) as the construction company to complete two General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at Madison Middle School and Broadmoor Elementary School totaling $37.3 million.

The work includes the partial construction replacement and renovation project at Madison Middle School with a construction budget of $22.2 million. At Broadmoor Elementary School, the construction replacement, remodeling and renovation work will total $15.1 million.

Madison Middle School – This school spans 14 acres of land and is comprised of 14 permanent buildings and covered walkways, with a capacity of 832 student stations. The buildings were constructed between 1954 and 2012.

The scope of the project includes the demolition and replacement of selective buildings.  There will also be a new parent drop-off, covered walkways and a new digital marquee sign.  As part of the work selective fences and gates will be replaced, and the basketball courts will be resurfaced 

Selective windows and doors will be replaced as well as interior lighting and cabinetry.

Selective replacement of HVAC system will be included.

A new campus wide security system will be installed, public address system and the fire alarm system will be upgraded. The auditorium sound system will also be replaced. 

Total project allocation - $22.2 million                     Final completion – October 2027 

Broadmoor Elementary School – This school is adjacent to Madison Middle and spans 5 acres of land and is comprised of nine permanent buildings, and covered walkways, with a total of 708 student stations. The buildings were constructed between 1957 and 1996.

The scope of the project includes the demolition and replacement of selective buildings, a new parent drop-off, an expansion of the parking areas, a new covered walkway which will connect to the new buildings, and a new exterior covered dining area. There will also be new basketball courts, and a new digital marquée sign. 

Aluminum windows, steel doors, upper and lower cabinets in classrooms are to be replaced.

Plumbing fixtures and refrigerated water coolers will be replaced as well as the HVAC system. Interior lighting and canopy lighting will be replaced as well as exterior wall-mounted lights. The campus exterior walls will be painted.

The school’s security alarm and camera system, fire alarm system, along with the public address system will be upgraded.

The following information is a combination total for both projects:

Total sub-consultant Small Business Enterprise (SBE) / Micro Business Enterprise (MBE) participation goals: 13.28 percent 

Total sub-consultant Minority/Women Business Enterprises (M/WBE) participation goals: 1.73 percent

Total project allocation - $15.1 million             Final completion – May 2027
