$1.5 Million Investment Propels College Access for M-DCPS Students Through Landmark Partnership

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is proud to announce a bold new initiative to expand college opportunities for its students, powered by a $1.5 million grant from Helios Education Foundation. The Education Fund, which received the award, will collaborate closely with M-DCPS to implement the program.

This landmark investment marks the first-ever grant awarded by Helios to support this collaborative model in M-DCPS, signaling a new era of investment for college-bound students.

“Every student deserves a future filled with possibility, and to have the support to pursue it,” said Helios President and CEO Paul J. Luna. “This investment is about opening doors, expanding horizons, and ensuring that more Miami-Dade students can confidently step onto a college campus knowing they belong there. When students believe college is within reach, it doesn’t just change individual lives — it transforms families, strengthens communities, and shapes future generations.”

The grant will fund programs designed to ensure that all students have the opportunity to pursue and complete two-year and four-year college degrees. By providing early college exposure, expanded advisement, test preparation, essay writing support, and improved FAFSA completion, we’re ensuring that every student sees college as a realistic and achievable path throughout M-DCPS schools.

“With every initiative, every grant, every partnership, our ultimate goal is to ensure that every student receives an education that enables them to fulfill their ultimate dream, whether they want to be a nurse or an engineer, a teacher or a lawyer,“ said Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres. “This partnership with the Helios Education Foundation and the Education Fund gets us one step closer to that goal.”

The program will primarily benefit "first-generation" students and those who face economic or informational barriers to higher education. By providing targeted resources, the initiative aims to close equity gaps and empower thousands of students to achieve their postsecondary goals, ultimately improving lifetime earnings and economic security for Miami-Dade families.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to educational equity. The Education Fund will play a key role in program implementation, leveraging its 40-year history of supporting innovative education initiatives in Miami-Dade.

“This grant allows The Education Fund to significantly ramp up our work to help Miami-Dade County Public Schools students achieve their dreams of attending two- and four-year colleges -- postsecondary education that is critical to building career success and overall lifetime earnings”, said Education Fund President Linda Lecht. “The grant also supports our efforts to create models of success that can be used by all schools across M-DCPS.”

About The Education Fund: The Education Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public education in Miami-Dade County by engaging the community and private sector in support of teachers and students.

Generous grants like this create a ripple effect, changing the lives of students and their families for generations to come. By helping our students build successful careers and give back to their communities, we are securing a brighter future for all of Miami-Dade. Partnerships like this are just one more reason why M-DCPS is Your Best Choice.
