M-DCPS Announces New "SportsPLEX" at Miami Killian: A First-of-Its-Kind Sports Industry Magnet Powerhouse
Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is turning "Game Day" passion into "Career Day" reality. Launching in Fall 2026, the new SportsPLEX at Miami Killian Senior High is a first-of-its-kind Magnet powerhouse designed to prep students for high-level careers in medicine, law, finance, and engineering tied to the athletic industry.
While the curriculum is elite, the experience is pure Miami Killian. Students will enjoy a traditional high school experience—complete with a storied athletic history and an enhanced complement of athletic teams—all while learning through a specialized sports-industry lens.
"SportsPLEX isn’t just for athletes; it’s for the next generation of innovators," said Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres.
Whether a student wants to be a surgeon, a sports agent, or a CFO, SportsPLEX uses the multi-billion-dollar sports industry as a launchpad for professional success.
“The launch of the Miami Killian SportsPLEX represents our commitment to preparing students for the future. We are creating more than just a new program, we are building a pathway for students to turn their passions into purpose!” said Ms. Mary Blanco, School Board Member. “I am thrilled to have such an innovative magnet program at Miami Killian Senior High. This program blends academics with real-world industry exposure, giving students the tools to thrive in careers that extend far beyond the field and confidence to lead in a global sports industry.”
The curriculum moves beyond the stadium and into the classroom with four specialized tracks:
Sports Business, Finance & Management: A deep dive into the world of finance, law, contracts, and corporate strategy.
Sports Performance & Injury Prevention: A head start for future doctors and healthcare providers.
Sports Technology & Innovation: Training the next generation of engineers and data scientists.
Sports Media & Creative Design: For future broadcasters, digital artists, and media moguls.

Applications are officially open for incoming 9th graders for the Fall 2026 school year. However, parents must act fast—seats are limited and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
