M-DCPS Awarded $8.9 Million in AEFLA Funding, Expanding Opportunities for Adult Learners Countywide

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), the largest recipient of Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) funding among eligible providers in Florida, has received $8.9 million in funding for the 2026–2027 program year, marking the District’s largest allocation to date. This continued investment reflects M-DCPS’s commitment to expanding high-quality educational opportunities and workforce-aligned programs for adult learners across Miami-Dade County.

The AEFLA program is a competitive federal initiative authorized under Title II of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and administered in Florida through the Florida Department of Education. This year’s award represents an increase of nearly $3 million over the previous year’s allocation.

The funding supports a range of programs, including high school equivalency preparation, English language acquisition, adult basic and secondary education, GED® preparation, and adult high school completion. It also supports Integrated Education and Training (IET) and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) programs, which combine academic instruction, workforce preparation, and career pathway development for adult learners.

M-DCPS serves thousands of students annually through a network of educational centers and community-based programs. Our adult education system plays a critical role in supporting economic mobility, workforce readiness, and lifelong learning opportunities throughout the community. These outcomes, combined with the District’s scale, funding leadership, and comprehensive program offerings, position M-DCPS as your best choice for adult education and workforce training in Miami-Dade County.

Participants include English language learners, unemployed and underemployed adults, individuals seeking a high school credential, and residents pursuing career advancement and workforce training opportunities.

Funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education and distributed to eligible providers through a competitive state grant process.

M-DCPS’s postsecondary programs strengthen Miami-Dade County’s workforce by equipping residents with the literacy, language, academic, and employability skills needed to succeed in today’s economy.
