Miami-Dade County Public Schools Posts Academic Gains in Every Tested Subject, Outperforms State Across Most Major Assessments

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) recently released district- and state-level results from the Spring 2026 administration of statewide assessments aligned to the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.). These include the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) for Grades 3–10 in English Language Arts (ELA) Reading and Grades 3–8 in Mathematics; B.E.S.T. Writing for Grades 4–10; and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Additionally, results were released for the Science EOC (Biology 1), Social Studies EOCs (Civics and U.S. History), and the Statewide Science Assessment for Grades 5 and 8.

Student Outcomes

Below are key findings from the Spring 2026 administrations across all tested subjects and grade levels within Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). The data reflect results for all students who participated in the FAST, B.E.S.T. Writing, End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1, Civics, and U.S. History, as well as the Statewide Science Assessments for Grades 5 and 8.

It is important to note that these results represent the full population of tested students, including those whose scores may not be included in school accountability calculations due to specific participation or inclusion criteria. Summary tables comparing district and state results by grade level are provided in the attached memorandum.

Key Findings

o   There were improvements in the percentage of M-DCPS students scoring in Levels 3–5 on the FAST ELA Reading assessments at all grade levels, showing growth compared to the 2025 results.

o   In 2026, M-DCPS outperformed the State across all grade levels, with percentages ranging from two to five percentage points more students scoring at or above grade level than the State.

·      M-DCPS students demonstrated higher percentages of students scoring on grade level or above in the FAST Mathematics assessments when compared to the State across all grade levels.

o   There were improvements in the percentage of M-DCPS students scoring in Levels 3–5 on the Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC assessments, showing growth compared to the 2025 results.

o   In 2026, M-DCPS outperformed the State on both the Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC assessments, with six and four percentage points more students, respectively, scoring at or above grade level than the State.

·      M-DCPS students demonstrated strong performance in Science, with improvements across all science assessments from Spring 2025 to Spring 2026.

o   There were improvements in the percentage of M-DCPS students scoring in Levels 3–5 in Grade 5 Science, Grade 8 Science, and the Biology 1 EOC, showing growth compared to the results from 2025 to 2026.

o   When considering all Grade 8 science students, including those who participated in the Grade 8 Statewide Science Assessment and the Biology 1 EOC, M-DCPS outperformed the State, with four percentage points more students scoring at or above grade level than the State.

·      M-DCPS students excelled in the social studies assessments, with a higher percentage of students scoring at or above grade level on both the Civics and U.S. History EOC exams compared to the State.

o   There were improvements in the percentage of M-DCPS students scoring in Levels 3–5 on the Civics and U.S. History EOC assessments, showing growth compared to the 2025 results.

The 2026 assessment results demonstrate that M-DCPS not only increased the percentage of students achieving on grade level performance but also expanded the percentage of students performing at the highest achievement levels. Across the statewide English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments, the percentage of students scoring in Achievement Levels 4 and 5 increased at every grade level from 2025 to 2026. Similar gains were observed across the End-of-Course (EOC) assessments, reflecting the District's continued success in moving more students beyond grade-level performance and into advanced levels of academic achievement.

Additional district, school, and statewide assessment results are available through the Florida Department of Education and the M-DCPS Assessment, Research, and Data Analysis website. Parents may also access individual student results through the Florida Department of Education Family Portal using the access code available in the M-DCPS Student Portal.
