M-DCPS Schools earned seven International Gold School Awards in chess education from the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE)

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) earned seven of the 11 Gold International School Awards in chess education awarded globally by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), standing as the only recipients in the United States. FIDE, the international governing body for chess, created the honor to celebrate programs that meaningfully connect the game to classroom instruction, academic resources, and community outreach.

Schools are evaluated across 11 criteria, including student involvement, teaching innovation, educator qualifications, chess programming, and social impact. In its inaugural year applying for the recognition, M-DCPS achieved a 100% success rate, with all seven district applicants securing Gold—the highest tier above Silver and Bronze.

The other Gold School Award recipients were located in Shanghai, China; A Coruña, Spain; and the United Arab Emirates, which had two award-winning schools.
