School Board Awards Contracts for Three GOB Projects Valued at $58.4 Million Including New 7-story School/Workforce Housing Facility in Collaboration with Miami-Dade Public Housing Authority

Construction will soon begin on an exceptional new campus featuring a seven-story building on county-owned land that will include a middle school and housing for District employees after the Miami-Dade School Board awarded the construction contract to H.A. Contracting. This General Obligation Bond (GOB) project is a unique collaboration between the Board and the Miami-Dade Housing Authority that is valued at approximately $41 million.

 

The Board also awarded additional construction contracts for GOB-funded renovations at two schools valued at $17.4 million.

 

Middle school facility and Workforce Housing (Brickell Area) this seven-story facility will house a middle school with 610 student stations, and includes general, science and ESE classrooms; skill development, art and music labs; an administration area; a media center, kitchen, and a multipurpose, roof-level physical education area. Additionally, the project includes 10 housing units with separate entrances and exits, as well as a residential lobby.

 

The project is scheduled to be completed by February 2023.

 

H.A. Contracting will use a total Sub-Consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation of 14.36 percent and Minority/Women Business Enterprises (M/WBE) participation of 15.51 percent.

 

Miami Beach Nautilus MiddleVeitia Padron, Inc. (VPI) was awarded the construction contract for the bond-funded auditorium renovations project at Nautilus Middle. Built in 1995 with four permanent buildings, the school sits on 5 acres and has a permanent capacity of 1,167 student stations.

 

The project includes a complete auditorium renovation with new carpet, sound, lighting, stage curtains, and interior painting. The project also includes campus-wide exterior painting with associated stucco repair and finishes; new LED lighting fixtures; selective ceiling tile renovations; and miscellaneous upgrades throughout campus.

 

The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2022.

 

Total project allocation - $9.4 million                                

 

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation:  23.19 percent

Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 15.99 percent

 

 

Lenora Braynon Smith Elementary JCI International, Inc. was awarded the construction contract for the bond-funded renovations at Lenora Braynon Smith Elementary. Built in 1949 on 10 acres, the school is located next to Charles Hadley Park on the north and by Georgia Jones Ayers Middle on the west. The campus is made up of 12 permanent buildings on approximately 10-acres. The facility has a permanent capacity of 754 student stations. 

 

The proposed scope of work for this project includes HVAC installation replacement in classrooms and dining area; replacement of ceilings and lights in classrooms and dining area; replacement of cabinets and wardrobes in classrooms; renovation of restrooms; upgrades to electrical throughout the school, security cameras and student restrooms to meet ADA compliance.

 

The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2023.

 

Total project allocation - $8 million                                         

 

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation:  13.27 percent

Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 18.59 percent

 

Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades.
